What to Expect During a Vehicle Recovery Callout
A plain-English walkthrough of what actually happens from the moment you call to the moment your vehicle is delivered where you need it.
Making the call
If you have broken down or had a minor incident and your vehicle cannot be driven, the first step is simply to call. When you ring 07737477003, it helps to have a few things ready so we can plan the job: where you are, what has happened, and what vehicle you have.
You do not need to diagnose the fault yourself. Just describe what you have noticed — it will not start, it has a flat tyre, there is a warning light and a loss of power, you have had a knock. That is enough for us to work out what is needed and to bring the right equipment.
Giving your location
The single most useful thing you can provide is an accurate location. On an ordinary road, a street name and town, a nearby house number, a shop, pub or junction all help. On a motorway or dual carriageway, the road number and direction (for example "M6 southbound") plus the nearest junction or marker post lets us reach you quickly.
A smartphone location — a dropped pin or the "what3words" three-word address — is ideal if you have it. If you are on a motorway hard shoulder or in an emergency area, follow the safety guidance first: get out of the vehicle on the left, get behind the barrier, and call from there. Your safety comes before anything else.
What a flatbed recovery looks like
Most car recovery is done with a flatbed (tilt-and-slide) truck. The bed tilts and slides down to the road, your vehicle is winched or driven gently onto the bed, and it is then secured with straps for transport. A flatbed keeps all four wheels off the road, which is the safest option for most cars — and the required option for many automatics, four-wheel-drive vehicles and electric cars, which can be damaged by being towed on their wheels.
The whole loading process is straightforward and usually takes only a few minutes once the truck is in position. You do not need to do anything except hand over the keys and let the operator work — and stay clear of the loading area while the vehicle is moving.
When a spec lift is used
In some situations, particularly tight spaces or certain roadside jobs, a spec lift (specialist wheel-lift) may be used instead. This lifts the vehicle by its driven wheels so it can be moved, often to reposition a car to a safer spot or onto the flatbed. The operator will choose the method that suits your vehicle type and the situation.
Whichever method is used, the aim is the same: to move your car without adding any damage. If your vehicle has any special requirements — low ground clearance, an aftermarket body kit, a non-standard gearbox, or it is an EV — mention it on the call so the right approach is planned from the start.
How long it takes
Honest answer: timing depends on several things, and no one can promise a precise minute. The main factors are how far away you are, the time of day and traffic, the weather, and how busy the roads are. A callout a few miles away in quiet conditions is quick; rush hour, bad weather or a rural location naturally takes longer.

Where we take your vehicle
One of the reassuring parts of a recovery is that you choose the destination. Your vehicle can be taken to your home, to a garage of your choice, or to another safe location that suits you. If you are not sure where you want it to go, we can talk through sensible options.
If passengers are with you, let us know when you call, as space depends on the vehicle. Once your car is secured and the destination is agreed, the operator will drive it there and unload it safely at the other end.
What you can do to help it go smoothly
A few small things make a recovery quicker and safer. Keep your phone charged and to hand. Have your keys and any details of your vehicle ready. If it is safe, switch on your hazard lights so you can be seen.
